Reading With the Pros – Education Tour & Monthly Book Readings

WSF Legends/Ambassadors will perform monthly book readings at elementary schools’ (Fall,Winter and Spring) and Public Libraries (Summer/Winter Break/Spring Break) throughout the Dallas/Houston Areas on a rotational basis. Working partnerships with local school districts, the Dallas Public Library and the Houston Public Library will be obtained in order to implement these readings. Library card sign ups will be promoted at each event. The progress of students taking part in these programs will be documented and reported upon on a annual basis. Students with exemplary progress in these programs will be subject to awards to be voted upon by the WSF Board of Directors.

 

Smitty’s Kids

Smitty’s Kids recognizes the hard work and accomplishments of children in the areas of academics, community involvement and personal development. Included in this program are several Honor Roll and Perfect Attendance incentives that award Houston students with tickets to Houston Texans home games at Reliant Stadium, eye-opening, horizon broadening field trips, and other unique experiences. Smitty’s Kids also recognizes influential educators that play a vital role in enriching the lives of children.

 

Smitty’s Scholars – Annual Scholarship Program

The WSF Scholarship Program looks beyond academic performance and grades and rewards based upon student’s determination to achieve great things through higher education.  We recognize academic potential and determination in students that have a definite need for financial assistance and will award a total of at least $10,000 annually to graduating high school seniors in both Dallas and Houston, Texas. Diabetes and General Health Screenings

WSF will provide quarterly screenings to children of at risk social-economic backgrounds in the Dallas/Houston Areas. WSF along with the American Diabetes Association and local hospitals will provide these screenings free of charge to all participants. Screenings for a minimum of 150 people will be provided at each session. Partnerships the WSF obtains with local school districts will facilitate implementation of these screenings at public schools in the Dallas/Houston Areas.

 

Football Skills/Fitness Clinic

The Lake Highlands Legends Annual Football Clinic will be a major fundraising event that will provide an exciting day of expert instruction and fun for children throughout the DFW Metroplex. It will be a catalyst to bring the all Dallas communities together, with a focus on the Lake Highlands area. During their time at the LHLFC, participants will learn important life lessons, and also receive top flight football instruction from a mix of talented individuals.  The coaching staff will consist of Current & Former NFL Players, Current & Former LH Wildcat Coaches along with Current & Former Wildcat Players.  Instruction by the likes of Wade Smith, Marcus Stiggers, Duane Brown, Patrick Crayton, Davaren Hightower and many more will definitely benefit the overall skills development of the young athletes that take part of this amazing event.

Participants that take part of this non-contact football clinic will be instructed on proper warming up and stretching techniques and put through position specific football drills. Special teams participation, competitive 1 on 1 drills, and Team Offense v Defense simulated scrimmages will also be prominent aspects of the clinic. The LHLFC will also give children and adults alike an opportunity to be screened for early onset of diabetes for no charge. This is Service provided by the American Diabetes Association.
